Soil samples typically contain many compounds such as humic acid that can inhibit downstream enzymatic reactions. E.Z.N.A.^® Soil DNA Kits are comprised of a novel proprietary method for isolating genomic DNA from environmental samples containing high humic acid content. The isolated DNA has a high level of purity which provide excellent DNA for downstream applications such as PCR.

Procedure

Environmental samples are added to a bead beating tube for rapid and thorough homogenization. Cell lysis occurs by mechanical and chemical methods. Binding conditions are then adjusted and the sample is applied to a HiBind® DNA spin column. Two rapid wash steps remove trace contaminants, and pure DNA is eluted by the DNA Elution Buffer. Purified DNA can be directly used in downstream applications without any further purification.
