A typical proteomic analysis consists of multiple stages including protein isolation, protein separation via Polyacrylamide Analysis of Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE), protein excision and digestion, MS Analysis and protein identification. Due to the number of steps involved in this process, a wide variety of equipment and expertise is required in order to obtain meaningful results. As a result of these requirements researchers often find themselves in a situation where they are unable to complete their research goals due to a lack of resources, are required to enter into collaborative agreements where their samples are often placed on hold while higher priority samples are processed, or end up contracting the work out to facilities that typically want to maintain the results as their own.
